Holiday Episode Q&A Thread
« on: 11:12 AM | Wednesday, December 08, 2010 »

OK folks, for those who haven't listened to Episode 137 (shame on you! ), we agreed to dip back into the waters of a little Q&A in honor of the holidays. I'm not sure which episode we're going to record the Q&A, but it'll likely be next week (or the week after).
Either way, here are the ground rules:
1) Post your questions in this thread, we will be pulling from this pinned thread as we record
2) We will NOT be going in order necessarily, it's unlikely we'll have time to get to all Qs, so we may pick and choose based on things we're feeling at the moment
3) Don't be upset if your question isn't picked, we still love ya
4) You can ASK us anything, but realize that we also may not choose to answer it. That said, we're pretty open and honest cats and certainly very little is off limits as far as I'm concerned
5) Make us laugh, or make us , or make us , or make us ...the questions we're FEELING are the questions we're likely going to hit on
6) We have no formal time allocated to the Q&A, so it may be 15 minutes, it may be 2 hours, or likely it's somewhere in between
7) I would say there's a better than 50/50 shot that we'll respond to Qs in this thread that we don't get the chance to address on the show
THANKS FAMILY!

What is the one book you love, but never would have read if one of the other guys hadn't recommended it? Who recommended it?
For Chris - I'm not much of a Manga fan either. So I ask you, what Manga would you suggest for the guy that doesn't really like Manga?
Vince - When I was much to young to be doing so, I used to love going through my uncle's old Heavy Metal collection. It's one of the only times I've ever been able too look at art and get lost in it, without worrying about the story. If I were to begin buying old Heavy Metal issues, where would you recommend I begin? Does any one issue or era stand out for you?
David - Your love for the Marvel Universe is obvious. You're the Marvel Noise guy after all. If you had one day, 24 hours to spend in the Marvel Universe and you could do anything you wanted to do with any characters, how would you spend that day?
Wood - You've made it known that you're a fan of both Wolverine and Deadpool, in a day when it's very uncool to admit your fondness for those characters. If you could pick a creative team for each character, that would be guaranteed a fifty to one hundred issue run, who would it be?

What comic death impacted you the most?
What fight have you always wanted to see that's never been done?
Favorite romantic couple in comics?
You have the power to bring back one character from the dead and kill one off..Who would it be?
You can switch one Marvel and D.C. exclusive artist to the other company. Who would it be and what book would you put them on?

Guys, a very simple question - what would it take to get you to try reading an issue of 2000AD ?? Its the birthplace of so much that becomes mainstream in US comics a few years down the line, from Alan Moore to Andy Diggle, from Brian Bolland to Frank Quitely, yet there seems to be no love stateside ?

Hey guys,
Thanks for doing the podcast that I most look forward to listening to each and every week.
What comic stands out the most as the one that lead you down the path to being the lover of the medium that you are today? I specifically remember buying Uncanny X-Men #220 (punk Storm and drooling Forge) and The Punisher #1 and getting sucked in from that point on.
Also, what is your Holy Grail comic or OOP item that is constantly there in the back of your mind, taunting you with its hard-to-get/find-ness?

Okay so here is the question. If you had to live in either the DC or Marvel Universe , which would you live in and where? City ? location. I myself would want to live in the Xaviers school. Of course I would get Renters insurance

Here's a couple:
Question 1:
In my mind, you guys have developed characters and stereotypes on the show: Chris is the jaded angry drunk Marvel hater; David is the sage-like Marvel guy who loves Batman; Wood is the savvy young playa who likes bling, Deadpool, and hip-hop; Vince is the crazy old DC-hating wizard who reads fucked up things that I would never in a million years touch with a ten foot pole. Seeing as how I have met 3 of you before and hung out a little bit, I know from personal experience that these stereotypes are inaccurate at best.
For the listeners that have never met you in person, do you think that their expectations of you (based solely on the podcast, Twitter, the boards, etc.) is a problem from time to time? And do the assumptions that some folks have about you guys ever bother you? This could apply to being comic fans or as people in general.
Question 2:
And to dumb it down: Out of these fictional comic book characters, who would you bang?
Selina Kyle
Power Girl
Lady Death
Snow White
Rose Red
Atom Eve
Emma Frost
Wonder Woman

If your wife was a comicbook character who would she be, and who would she be drawn by ?
If you we're all in a planecrash and stuck in the himalayas for months. Who would be eaten first ? Why? And how would he be prepared?
Before you ask yes I read Chew the Omnivore edition and Alive was on tv...

My questions:
(1) pick two or more characters from different universes (that have never met before in a team-up book) for a team-up OGN or. Mini-series. Who should write it? Draw it?
(2) accepting the possibility that it could turn out to be crap, what prose novel or series of novels would you like to see adapted to comic book format? Who should draw and write it?
(3) is there a period or an event from your life that you wish could be captured in comic book form (ogn or limited series) regardless of whether or not anyone else would be interested in reading it?
My answers:
(1) I'd love to see a Catwoman/Daredevil teamup mini-series written by Brubaker and/or Rucka, not sure who should draw it.
(2) a. Kathine Kurtz' Deryni series, or b. David Eddings' Belgariad; and I'd love to see Jim Cheung draw them but I'm not sure who should adapt them
(3) The year I spent in Gitmo, Oct 91 - Oct 92. It was my first duty station during the 4 years I spent in the Marines. It was a very formative year for me. Lots of good memories and a few not so good.

Two things...
Are you still planning on doing the episode where you have all the wives get together to talk (and laugh at their husbands) for a bit? I think it's the one time that I could get my wife to listen to a comic book podcast!
Is their a monumental work or perhaps creator that let's say has never done it for you personally? Something or someone that is generally raved about that leaves you wondering why that is the case?

Now I have a machine gun ho ho ho bitches!!!
I would like to know what phrases you use that you have noticed others picking up around you. Wood and Vince I’m sure have had instances when the kids fire back the lingo. I got caught recently (thanks to Chris) when I described the weather to my wife as being “colder than a nuns tit in a tin bra”.
I may have used the terms “giddy, on it like a bonnet and wumba” from time to time also.
Peace love and comics to you all and a very happy new year.
Matt
I was curling last night and my skip asked me how soon I jumped on a stone when it passed the hog line. I told him I was On It Like A Bonnet!

That WAS going to be the basis of my question. I hope that happens some day!
QUESTION: If you had the power (money and licensing not a factor - NO RULES!)........
What TWO comics properties (series, one shots, minis, graphic novels, your choice) would you want to be made in to a film or TV series:
1) One for your personal enjoyment, regardless of broad appeal;
2) One for the enjoyment of others - has the elements that you trust would be enjoyed by many

Marvel's Strange Tales is a good example of an indie-mainstream hero mash-up working well, and King City,Orc Strain and Bulletproof coffin are books that are influenced by art from various sources. What art mash-ups would you like to see effect the future of comics?

Are there any story arcs that you absolutely loved but for some reason the artwork wasn't quite up to your liking? And if you could get a "do-over" which artist would you choose?
It can be any artist from any era.

A different spin on a question:
Due to podcasting salary caps, one of you must be traded away to another comic book podcast. For each of the 4 guys, who would you pick up off waivers from other comic podcasts as a best fit for the member traded away?

Ok, so I know that for some of us, if not all, comics can be considered a vice, meaning we probably spend more money than we really should on them (at least for me, I'm no baller). Besides comics and alcohol (Chris) and curling brooms (Chris), what other "vice" do you spend your dough on?
