So I’ve been head down in an art test for a Concept Art position since my last post. From nearly a month on the portfolio prior to sending my resume and cover letter, to my very positive portfolio review, to the two weeks after grinding out additional art making my submissions more relevant to the specifics of the job with this art test; things have been hectic.
Along the way I’ve been inspired by the works of some industry professionals who have been very candid about their thoughts on artistic mediums like Games and Comics, and I wanted to share them with you 11 O’Clockers
This first is Dan Panosian through his blog on Deviant art. He’s one of those guys who has always been insightful about the twists and turns his career has taken. Somewhere along the way his self striving and critical nature have been the inertia that drives him to become a better and better artist with every assignment (X-Factor Forever anyone?).
Anywho he says it better than I can:

The second is from KomicKarl Altstaetter who has recently created the comicpreneur blog as a place for creators who want to build a business around their comics.
In the past he has touched on the notion of Story engines which are IPs whose worlds work across multiple platforms which can be additionally reinforced by "milestone events" i.e. the release of comics and video games, movies, novels. It exists as a constant fusion of brand and content that users can dip into and out of as they please. This interesting concept, is something I expect him to discuss at length on his blog as he is all for a more robust system that relies upon creators to generate content that will be unique and original enough to hold a users/viewers attention over the long term.
He continues to impress
