Don't worry about taking notes or forcing it. Just let it flow. That inner Blackwell of yours will come out when it's ready.

Round table discussion on/at the end of Secret Invasion? Maybe get a group together on Skype and discuss the series as well as future implications for the Marvel U? Record it and send it to David - I'm assuming he doesn't have enough time to join in this.

I was telling David earlier that maybe a Year In Review type of episode would be good. It'll give us time to prep for it as well. A post-SI episode would be good too, as Evad mentioned.

Just a quick chime-in on what Steve was talking about with Byrne's Sub-Mariner and the mention of the Zip-a-tone effect... actually, if memory serves, what Byrne was actually doing was using special paper for this called Duo-tone, and the deal with Duo-tone is that basically the shading patterns (just two of them) are already in the paper, and then brought out by brushing a special chemical on top- the board itself is a little thicker than the standard bristol board... my guess is what Byrne was trying when he started doing the full book was to somewhat emulate Namor's first appearance way back in the day, and Bill Everett used Duo-tone back then as well...
Anyway, the above is just for those that didn't know what this process was...

Yes, that's the stuff he was doing. I have a long history of irresponsibly using the term zip-a-tone to refer to all those methods of adding pre-produced grids/patterns/shade lines. Kinda like calling a tissue a kleenex, or a copy a xerox. I should (could) have been clearer and taken the opportunity to sound knowledgable, but I'm lazy and was being off the cuff... It was really cool they way he shaded the undersea scenes using this stuff!

No worries man, I certainly got it... I just brought it up in a little more detail because in this day and age of digital art, there's probably a few people out there that just don't know that something like this even existed...
And yes, Byrne's Namor series was fantastic!!

I used duotone in my comic, back in the eighties.
Zip-a-tone is the transferable sheet of dotted pattern that you placed on the art, cut out the pattern you wanted it to fit into, then rub to make transfer with a burnisher. Because of the dots on the transfer, when you rubbed your burnisher across the paper it went Zip! Zip! Zip! Zipzipzipzip!
Good times...

It all sounds so primative, doesn't it? The dueling-chemical process didn't sound much easier.

And yet back in the day... it was just so cool... I still remember using zip-a-tone sheets for the first time and just feeling like I was going to be the next Terry Austin, even though it was such an incredible pain in the ass to use, it just looked cool...

So how far back in the episodes will I listen to and then comment on?
Apparently as far back as episode 50.
I realized about ten minutes into the episode that I had heard this installment before when I was listening to the show on a fairly regular basis. I kind of miss the "Driving to work with David Price," segments because I liked the atmosphere they had. I've gone on and listened to 51-54 and then jumped to 58 because they won't download for some reason (I keep getting a page error) but it's been a lot of fun going back and listening to the older shows.
Steve talked about Namor, one of my favorite John Byrne titles EVER after a certain Man of Steel and two teams (one that is fantastic and one that is...Alpha...ok, my comparison breaks down here). I read up to issue 25 and dug the heck out of it. I had never really cared all that much for Namor before that but after reading the series I was a fan. Glad to see that one of the books you wanted them to collect was in fact put into a collected edition even if they have to go back and do a few more volumes.
Actually a lot of the series that Steve wanted them to collect got at least a trade paperback. I listened to the "put the pre-official Byrne run of FF into a trade paperback" and son of a gun they did it. I hope you got a cut, Steve.

I have a few blogs and podcasts out there on the tubes.
