EOC Sketchbook Challenge (June-Justice Society of America)-w/editor Gabe Hardman

For the month of June...may I present Mr. Gabriel Hardman...

Quote from: heathencomics on 03:05 AM | Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Hey everybody. Gabe Hardman here. I've drawn Agents of Atlas, my Image OGN Heathentown and I'm currently the regular artist on Hulk. I'm here to announce this month's 11 O'Clock Sketchbook Challenge!

I've always been a fan of the Golden Age characters so I've chosen to go with...

The Justice Society of America

Any character, original or legacy, that's related to the JSA will work. All Star Squadron, Freedom Fighters and Infinity Inc. count too. Though my favorites are the genuine 1940's characters.

I'll do my best to contribute a sketch when I get back from Heroes Con. Look forward to seeing what everybody comes up with!

GH

*******************************************

Thanks for the new challenge Gabe.  I love me some golden age characters (can't wait)    Not Worthy

If you're new to the thread here's how it works.  We're here to have fun and to sharpen our drawing skills.  All amatuers & professionals are welcome to participate (still waiting for our first pro).  If you want to submit a piece of artwork here are the rules...Number #1) only post characters for the current month's assignment (a little spillover is OK from the previous month)...Number #2) You must be the artist (we're not looking for your original art collection, that's another thread)...& Number #3) (and most importantly) Have fun drawing.

Now by request here's an index to the previous month's submissions.

December 2010 - Captain America (pages 1-5)
January 2011 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (pages 5-10)
February 2011 - Comic Book Couples / Gotham City Sirens edited by David Price (pages 10-15)
March 2011 - Spaceboy edited by Chris Neseman (pages 16-24)
April 2011 - Fables 100 edited by Vince B (pages 24-31)
May 2011 - Star Wars edited by Jason Wood (pages 31-43)
June 2011 - Justice Socitety of America edited by Gabe hardman (pages 43-

Alright, Bryan!  I can tell you are having fun with this month's challenge.  Your characters are just that.  CHARACTERS!  Great stuff.

Mickey, you're right.  Today is a Stargirl day.  Right on, my man.

Oooh, I do like the Stargirls! Sorry to have to break the trend, but mine is NOT a Stargirl. It's a Golden Age Batman instead:

Atom versus Atom Smasher
I called up Chris Neseman for ideas on this months EOC Challenge and after spitballing, I came up with this. I feel I have good ideas, but my execution can fail. I need an inker and a colorist to really make this shine. Anybody want to fix it up, go right ahead. I'll send a hi-res version.

Sorry guys, work's got me pulling long weeks (especially since I had to work ahead so that I could hang out with Slurmo, Jon, and Lawrence at Summit City).  I posted an old Hawkman sketch at the beginning of the month, but I still need to do one.  Got till the end of the month before the new assignment...right?

...wait a minute, don't I make up the rules?   Tongue

Hey everyone, I had to take the advice of a wise man (Thanks Andrew), kinda go back to what I like to do. So here's a GL in charcoal. I'll keep practicing with the pens and brushes though.

Something I thought of though, I think I enjoy the charcoal because I can feel the paper under the charcoal and push, pull and fight with it. Which is what I like about the hard charcoal. With a brush though, there's no fighting back and forth. There's no physical give and take with the materials. It seems like a very thoughtful and graceful effort with a brush that I'm not use to. Even with my oils, I can push against the canvas because the bristles are pretty thick. But this brush and ink man, whole new world...

Beautiful work everyone, I need to go through and look closely at everyone's, but beautiful none the less.

By medium, I'm guessing comics? If so, I guess I've started drawing comics from around 2005 after a ten year hiatus.

If by ink wash, probably less than 2 years.

And now for something completely different...

Feel a little bit out of place posting this here, my first effort for trying to learn how to draw things. Figured that this might be a nice way of getting fresh ideas on what to draw every month and here we go. Besides it's fun !
