Infinite Vacation is hot hot HOT!
« on: Today at 01:01 AM »

Damn, this hit me upside the head with it's goodness. I wasn't that excited about the title based on the Preview pages but given that Nick Spencer is doing well on Morning Glories I decided to try the first issue. Maybe it was because I wasn't expecting anything but it blew me away. The idea of being able to ebay other realities and jump around is great, the photo pages of the sales men added so much to the story telling and Chrstian Wards art fit this like no bodies business. I'm not at all familiar with Mr. Wards art but it just fit this story so well with vibrant colors and a dream like quality that seals the deal. The world is immediately compelling to me and the main character Mark sets up the premise perfectly in the first issue.

I didn't pre order the second issue of this. I figured if I liked the first issue I'd pick it up in trade but it may warrent a trip to the LCS when it comes out.

Your thoughts?

My initial thoughts after reading the first issue was "this is going to read awesome in trade". I kind of wish I would have trade waited on this one. It's definitely visually stunning and clever concept writ well.  Thumbs UpI want to see this series through

I really enjoyed the first issue as well, which is not surprising as I have liked everything Spencer has done.

I thought it was awesome as well.  I thought the art was really interesting.  It wasn't all that awesome from the standpoint of saying, 'Damn....that MF can DRAW!!!!" as it was more visually arresting from an overall sense of design.  Showing that there's more to being an artist than being able to draw.

It's hot in more ways than one. Issue #1 is already selling for quadruple cover price on ebay. Not likely to hold though.

I dug it! The art took some getting used to. But the design and overall aesthetic of the book was pretty powerful. Those colors, WOW. As for the fumetti... well it made sense conceptually even if I can't clap to it aesthetically.

As with all big idea sci-fi stuff, it was the little touches I liked the best. Having the therapist and customer service representatives all be versions of yourself struck me as pretty brilliant. On the other hand, the murder mystery aspect of the story felt a bit less imaginative. Still... quite a setting for a mystery!

Good stuff, I'm sticking with it.

That was the thing about the art. Stand alone or say in a mainstream book it wouldn't have worked. But given the subject matter or this trippy/dream notion of switching lives/realities it worked for me. Gave the story a sense of wonder and illusion.
