You wanna know how cool YOU are...?

So all your life you have known people who listened to college radio stations and were plugged into "the hot indie band" before they broke big. They considered you the Johnny come lately when you were buying the 3rd album from the band (the one that got all the airplay).
So all your life you have known the girl that knew and wore the next "stylish" fashion trend straight from France, Italy or Japan before anyone here in the states were anywhere of. She scoffed at you when you pondered if you could pull off the look (because obviously today's hot look is so yesterday).
So all your life you have walked into a group of people who were gushing over the latest hip TV drama. When you tried to see what all the fuss was about so much happened prior to you jumping on the train that your were just LOST.
...But now...
As people leave theaters this Summer and mutter the phrase:
"Thor, I have never heard of this superhero"
"Green Lantern, I have never heard of this superhero"
"Captain America, I have never heard of this superhero"
...just be aware that YOU are the one ahead of the curve. You are the indie, trendy and hip individual who stood in the center of the great zeitgeist long before others even knew where to look. YOU were just kind enough to wait for the rest of the world to catch up to your coolness.

So all my life I just surfed the Internet unaware of how computers worked while all the geeky kids discussed the latest and greatest motherboard fans and power adapters...

I know after I see Thor on Thursday my brother and a few friends will be asking questions. They did it after X-men, Spider-man, Hulk, etc

It amazes me that people I know that are well versed in literature still do not know who Thor is. He is not just a comic book hero.
Anyway, it is nice to be in the know and I am always surprised by people's interest in comics. I'm still stuck thinking I'm the outsider.

I've somehow found a bar trivia game that does a 'comic book' question every couple of weeks.
My teammates just wager the maximum and hand me the answer slip.
Tonight's question started, "Donald Blake ..."
Yeah, nailed it.

I don't really feel like I can claim this. I started liking comics when everyone (at least dudes) at my elem school use to roll with them (when I think about how all of the turned out, how different they, were I kind of marvel at comic's past far reaching ability to reach different people - united by Uncanny X-men, Spidey, or G.I. Joe) in there bookbags and trade them, and I used to roll to the base book store when there were never not dozens of adults lounging reading comics. In Japan? EVERYONE read comics there too. Comics were never underground for me and personally I find the fact that they are or were recently to be the biggest bummer regarding the medium and I truly hate the idea of this nerd niche suffrage movement being almost exclusively put on comics and being such a prevalent net fad.
I do hate the douchebag college radio guy, but I never knew the girl who was hip to french fashion, I knew the french girl who rocked them out originally.
The truth is that it's very likely that if comics weren't this accepted mainstream norm when I was a child, I'd probably never had read them.
