So with all my exams finally over, I've been on a serious reading trip these past few days. Being done with school has also given me too much spare time, so for those with the stamina to endure it I'll provide some short reviews of the titles I've finished

This one was a solid story, with good writing and excellent art. I have to say that I was a little disappointed, though, especially after all the hype here and elsewhere. Sure it was well written, and Albuquerque's art was outstanding, but in my opinion there was nothing new under the sun in this first hardcover. Maybe it's because I've been exposed to too much vampire fiction (not to mention movies and roleplaying games), but it was a bit of a letdown.
Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, I've been reading all four of these trades recently, and I finished the fourth one yesterday. I thought it would be a reread, but while reading it I realized that I've never actually read all seven of the minis before. It was great to read them back to back in this way, and I was loving the shit out of most of it. The format was great, and it gave a lot of different flavors, really showcasing Morrison's talent alongside that of his many artistic collaborators. In the end,
Mister Miracle left me cold (probably because I know next to nothing of the New Gods et al),
Bulleteer,
Frankenstein, and
Guardian of Manhattan provided some good fun, but
Zatanna and
Klarion absolutely rocked my socks off! I looved those two, and I'm considering seeking out the new
Zatanna title now.
Now I can't wait for my
Final Crisis bind to arrive, or to read Dave Faust's analysis
I've been ranting about Churchill's
Marineman in other threads, but I also have to mention it here. This series ROCKS! There's no other way to put it. It's some of the best and freshest superheroic fun I've read in ages, and it's just so damn
fun. Of course it helps that I've had a childhood dream of being a marine biologist and enjoy all things aquatic and underwater, but the art and storytelling of this miniseries have also been damn near perfect for what it set out to do.
On another note this has been the first title which I've read on my iPad, and it was a great experience. Not only that, but my girlfriend saw me reading it, asked if she could have a look, and now I've got her hooked on digital comics, which she enjoys reading much more than the dead-tree ones. Mission accomplished!

Just picked up this tome today for $8 at Strand. It looks wonderfully pulpy and Howardian, and it's not only my first Showcase Presents but also my first meeting with
The Warlord, so I'm really looking forward to it
Of course, what's a summer off from school without some self-imposed academic readings? I don't think you can do well in academia without at least a little bit of a masochistic streak
