Dude! Karma for the recs!  Not Worthy

Matt, here are a few more recommendations. I'm lazy so I wrote less about them but wholeheartedly recommend them!

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke: This is a long book, perfectly read, so you get a lot of bang for your credit/buck. It may be my favorite audiobook and it's a book I might have found boring in print. Read aloud, it's wonderful. My favorite combination of book and reader...

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell: a terrific science fiction novel that delves into religious issues and first contact. I read this book and loved it. Then I listened to the audiobook and loved it.

A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore: A very funny book about a man who becomes a grim reaper, read by actor Fisher Stevens, who does a wonderful job.

LOVED this book. Not something I would normally pick up, but once I cracked it, I couldn't put it down.

The audiobook is a real treat. I loved it too but a number of people I've mentioned it too said they found it boring. I thought it was superb!

You may want to give Johannes Cabal: Necromancer a shot. It's not as good as Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell but it scratches a similar itch.
