I enjoyed the mention of Sir Duncan, the Hedge Knight.
Wouldn't surprise me if there is a spin off between seasons of the Hedge Knight, if this show does well enough.

yeah, i didn't catch that either. and don't you mean ser duncan? Grin(heehee!)

It was when the nurse was telling stories.

Yeh the old nan scene was brilliant.

How does TV series like this work? Is it one person doing the scripting for the whole series or a team or individual people each episode?

Most TV shows, at least those on network TV, have a team of writers. The entire writing staff brainstorms together and plots out the entire season's story beats, throwing ideas into the mix and settling upon a story that works, both for the season as a whole and each individual episode. Then each episode is assigned to a different writer to actually write the script, following the story points established in the group meetings. They deliver the script, the executive producer or showrunner makes suggestions or changes, the network may or may not want changes made, and another draft of the script is produced. Eventually they'll lock a shooting script and begin filming. I don't know if this is the case on Game of Thrones, but I would think it pretty likely that it works along similar lines.

 Drool

Freaking best episode yet!

I promise not to post that every episode btw, but damn that was good. Man I loved all the "explaining" scenes. Oh and that key scene at the end, even though I was waiting for it, damn it had atmosphere.

Yeah, this show is all sorts of awesome. The Wall is so majestic, and the lack of training is foreboding. I hope Snow has a long arc throughout the series.  I love how they're setting up both bastards as the kick ass young Turks.

Dude you are in for a huge treat if your loving it so far. Specially if they stick to things the way they are. I hope you can mange to avoid everything that is remotely a spoiler though or half the fun will of it will be ruined.

I am digging reading reviews from people who haven't read the books and hearing all the theories.

I haven't read the books and love this show.  My girlfriend does as well.  She has asked me numerous times this week if I was excited that a new episode comes on in a few days.

I have the first book, and it looks intriguing, but I haven't even cracked it yet.  Trying to decide if I should just read the books first and check out the HBO series later in a collection.  Or just say "fuck it" and watch the series first.

Brain fart, who's the other bastard?  Other than John Snow?

If my vote counts for anything, I think the payoff for the "Oh shit!" moments will be a lot better in the books, and is honestly half the fun of reading them.  I'd go with reading the books first.

But you don't get to see full frontal nudity from reading the books.   Thumbs Up

Touché, boobies do go a long way as a convincing argument.

I finally watched last night's episode, I'm pretty stoked that, I think, we met Bronn who is one of my favorite secondary characters.  I'm guessing he's the guy who offered his room to Tyrion in the inn at the end.  Also, I hope there's a bit more to the Hand's Tourney, because the close of that scene in the books is one of my favorite in the series.

I forget the actor's name, but I think they got Hamish's dad (from Braveheart) to play Lord Mormont.

SWEET! He's exactly who I was imagining as I was reading the books!! Didn't know the actor's name, but your reference allowed me to find it - James Cosmo!  Boogie

i love how they end each chapter with a cliffhanger. its the same with the books, and its great they're able to do it for the show too. the locations and the sets are just GREAT. the tournament grounds, the palace gardens and dothrak city are all very well done for TV standards.

AGAIN casting is very good, with a pitch perfect sam. really pathetic, and sympathetic and humorous at the same time.

jamie is in just one scene but i love what he does with it.

also, HODOR! HODOR!

Watch the tv show. If your anything like me, your comic book habit will keep you from the book for ages. Plus the wait between episodes when it's a cliff hanger every week, doubles the enjoyment. Gives time to think on things, come up with theory's etc etc. And then swap them with people, just look at this thread, the doc who thread and the Lost thread. Lost would not of been half the show it was to me without talking about it the next day at work and hanging out every week for the next ep.

Plus you watch the first season, then you start the first book and you should be caught up on the whole thing by the time the next season starts.

I'm really impressed with how good a character Jaime is in the show.  He's one of my favorites in book, and I was worried about any actor's ability to make you sympathize with such a detestable person.  All his life all he wanted was to be a member of the King's Guard, to be one of the finest knights in the land.  Then, when he's finally able to realize that goal he's forced to serve under two terrible kings.  The first who was literally insane, and the second who is ultimately undeserving of anyone's respect.  Jamie feels nothing but contempt for these men who he's honor bound to protect, but who are unworthy of the protection of the King's Guard, and I think that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau pulls that off perfectly.
