that scene with dany emerging from the smoke and embers, then jorah dropping to his knees and pledging his loyalty (for realsies this time), was FANTASTIC. and then the remaining dothraki following suit, fucking cool!
the same with the northmen swearing fealty to rob; gave me goosebumps.
overall, a fuckin' good finale to a GREAT series. can't wait for book dance of dragons next month. i hope i can get into whatever HBO has in store for GoT at comic-con. that's gonna be INSANE.

The King of the North scene was my favorite of the book, they realized it even better then I did. Second to that? The Old Man Mormont's speech about what he planned to do in regards to what was beyond the wall. They nailed that scene as well.
And the final scene was also aces.
Goddamn, Spring 2012 is coming... much too far away from now.

entertainement weeklly interview with producers:
http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/06/19/game-of-thrones-season-finale/
Some fans were bummed they didn’t see anything from the battles, even though they’re not very detailed in the book either. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say there’s a big battle in the second book. Will you be able to show that?
DB: There was never much discussion of shooting The Battle of Whispering Wood [Robb vs. Jaime's army]. We did have plans to show Tyrion marching into battle behind The Mountain. We had a whole way we wanted to shoot it following Tyrion’s eye level as The Mountain is just (cutting soldiers down). Ultimately we had to make some really tough decisions. We ran out of time to shoot it properly and we much rather have a great scene with our characters than a crappy version of the battle. We want to have some great battles, we’re working very hard to have great battles in season two. We’d like to have more direwolves too.
DW: There’s so many things we can do so much better than films. But there are a few things like battles and creatures where there’s a brute force financial component to doing those well, and it involves being very creative and selective about how you show those things to make them achievable. We don’t want them to look like a Playstation 2 game, we want it to look at the same level [of quality] as the rest of the show.
Those looked like very realistic, big-summer-movie-quality dragons. How are you going to afford to keep doing that though season two?
DB: I have no idea. It’s going to be a season of tough choices. We have dragons, we have direwolves growing, we have massive battles. Despite the various character deaths, we have a growing cast of characters — all this with the same amount of time to shoot it.
DW: There’s going to be a lot of smoke.
Will the direwolves be created with CGI in season two?
DW: It will be a combination of real dogs and visual effects and any other way we can make it work.
i hope they can get more than sufficient funding... hell, i hope they get MORE episodes. they're certainly gonna need it.

They really don't need to spend the money and time on CGI wolves... just go find some big dogs. I would much rather want that money and time focuses on the big battle of the next book.

Agreed re: the dogs. Explains why the dogs haven't had as big a role in the show as they did in the books.

Hopefully the fact that 2/3rds or so of the sets are built, and that I'm sure DVD sales will be huge, they will be able to throw more funds to the very few places the show was lacking.

Now that the show is over, I thought I'd try and keep the thread alive a little bit.
Anybody read the Marvel adaptations of the Hedge Knight short stories? For those that don't know, George R.R. Martin wrote a few prequel short stories (I think they were both in the Legends collections several years back) and when Marvel got the Dabel stuff they got the rights to create comics based off the story. They are set before Robert was king.
Personally I thought the comics were okay, a nice bit of history for Westeros. I'm surprised with the success of the show that there hasn't been an annoucement adapting the main books.

There was a few months back, I read it on Martins blog. Dynamite got the rights though. They have announced writer and an artist, both of which there names escape me, though I do remember seeing some art and liking it.
I liked the Hedge Knight adaption and think it's well worth a look for anyone who loved the show. I haven't the Sworn sword adaption.
The actual short stories are fantastic reads for anyone interested. They are set about 80 odd years before Game of Thrones. Ameon the maestor on the wall gets a mention, it's around the time he would be in his early twenties at a guess.

In the beginning I thought it would be dope to be a Dothraki, but now...not so sure.
I probably would want to be a Lannister.

Now might be the perfect time to be Dothracki; if they become dragon riders or something. Plus, they mount their women like hounds on a bitch.

Dany is known as Stormborn because of how bad the weather was when she was birthed.

Tully might as well be my childhood in AK, fishing & family loyalty
If I lived in this universe & had my way I'd head out to Yi Ti (stand-in for Thailand, maybe?), get a monkey-tailed hat, smoke a bamboo pipe, learn kung-fu/qigong/etc, get into adventures...Braavos sounds cool, too...a vaguely Mediterranean stand-in, so it seemed while reading.

Cool, I didn't know that but,
At the end of e10 was Kahleesi taking over the Dothracki or making a new house out of slaves. At first I thought she was taking over the Dothracki until you said "House Stormborn"

What clan or family would you want to belong to?
Lannister or Greyjoy. Lannisters always win, but there are lots of benefits in being located on an island rather than on the mainland. Just ask 17th century England.
