At least part of the day is good when you finish off an episode of 11 O?Clock comics and Marvel Noise almost back to back. Good to have Pat back. Between Cap wolf and the Clone Saga those are two stories high on the list of I can?t believe that was collected. I?d have to think of what else belongs on such a list.

I?ll always go for a Raker?s Dozen to catch up me up on things. That issue of Thunderbolts seemed very much like a classic Marvel comic at times. Even having characters that had no relevance on the plot but commenting on it. Love that stuff.

My love for the Captain America title always seems to eclipse others. I would likely same the same thing about Daredevil as with Cap but I?m not picking up Daredevil Reborn. Black Panther feels like I?m still reading Daredevil?s story and it?s continuing the numbering so it?s taken Daredevil?s spot. Reborn also has the $3.99 price point and for a story I?m not certain about it was easy to wait for trade on it. Reborn sounds like that one off Frank Miller Daredevil story from back in the day that I?m not the most fond of

Speaking of Black Panther I?m enjoying the title too and the great art helps that along. The covers don?t bother me but I hope they become more interesting. The name Vlad bugs me a bit but I can get by that. There?s a funny game I play with the dialogue sometimes in Black Panther with Vlad. I play the read in a Russian accent and skip even more words for broken English. I amuse myself

All right some Uncanny love. I heard Legacy was good when it first started and I have just continued to pick it up in collections since I enjoy them but I?m usually not in any hurry

I bailed on Fantastic Four about two months ago. As for Avengers Prime I thought Bendis would do a decent enough job on it and then the Alan Davis art had me waiting for a collection. But it?s not oversized and only a premiere hardcover what?s up with that? If I wait will they get one later on? Strikes me as bizarre.
I think that Thanos Devastation one-shot was better than the mini; it had so much going for it.

I don?t read much of Bendis work anymore. Bailed on his Avengers work a few years ago at this point I think. Probably not entirely related but what he says and how he writes issues always bugged me when you would sometimes get an issue with not enough content in it even though he wants to give you your money?s worth. Somehow his saying you have to enter a scene late, and leave the scene early coupled with him saying that he keeps on adding things to the issues from his first time writing through them leads to there not being enough content in his issues puzzled me. Oh well, mini rant over. I enjoy hearing about what?s going on the title but it?s not the Avengers I want to read about.

I just finished reading New Ways to Die and was kind of wondering what over mini?s from BND I should pick up other than the Black Cat one since I?m getting pretty into it. Nice parallel. I liked Venom back in the day with Mcfarlane/Larsen/Bagley but when he an ongoing series of mini?s it became too much and the quality seemed too drop off.
Aww?Spider-Man missing. Good times trying to track down all those back issues.

I say any excuse for a Fin Fang Foom appearance is a good one?! Argh! I?ve written too much on Marvel Noise once again Surrender

Edit: Yeah I got the thread to page 4! Smiley

It works, but was it appropriate?  I don't know....were there Nordic black guys?  Thinking

....and I love Fin Fang Foom, but it really came out of left field by being a transformed Heimdall....kooky!

Didn't they depict a black Heimdall because that character is going to be black in the movie? (Played by Idris Elba).  You know, the casting that made a group of southern whites lose their minds and declare their plans to boycott the movie?

Regardless of those asshats, I thought it was an odd choice of casting anyway, because NEWP -- Black Nordic Guys don't seem to exist without some kind of transplantation any more than there are White Maori Tribesmen.  So it would make no sense to ME if there were black Norse GODS when all the Norse people were white.  It's like having a white god in a Chinese pantheon or a Sino-Asian god in an Australian Aboriginie pantheon.

I'm glad you get what I mean by questioning appropriateness.....the visual is cool, but if you peel away the superficial surface layer and think about it...doesn't really make sense.  Hardly a biggie, though.

I was not aware about the casting choice/angle or protests.....like I said, hardly a biggie....I didn't realize there were still so many practicing Asgardians in the states, south or otherwise, to be offended! Cheesy

Someday I'll take the time to rant about how the Clone saga was impossible because the clone wasn't a clone....neither was the Gwen Stacy clone...they were other people, transformed by some viral catalyst that Warren had developed....he hadn't actually learned to clone. I think Englehart tied up those ends in the late '80s

Yeah, in spirit, is similar....but it read really smoothly given modern storytelling, with little dialogue, pretty predictable situations.....it was just a nice, quick read that managed to draw you into the story/world without being too deep of a read cerebrally....it was just a good comic, despite no tights.  If you've always liked DD, give it a shot in trade.

I thought the same thing, and was resigned to the fact that when I bought the singles I'd probably end up double-dipping on the oversize HC, but the gamble paid off, as I'm passing on the standard sized collection.

Yeah, 'cause they were through butchering the character of Thanos the previous issue and we can now look forward.

Well it's taken me this long to get a headset  Cheesy The list would be slightly on the negative side.

I'd listen to it. I remember Marvel having tons of convoluted reasons for everything in the clone saga but I don't remember all that them anymore. In the early/mid 90's it's not like they really needed much of a reason but I digress.

I've read Daredevil for like 15 years so I'll definitely get to the trade.

I kind of wondering where certain stories are going to fall when I'm reading because they talk about Spider-Man extra or whatever in the back matter and they always seem to split off somewhere. I'd rather read the whole issue but I guess when they show up whenever and I'll read them then since I got 10 collections in a row to read for cheap.

But he is Stringer Bell.   Cry   He is perfect for any movie.  I am now really into this movie way more than I was before.  I perked up when he showed up in the Losers movie.  I don't know what NEWP means?  I am not so good with the internet slang1.

I can sort of see the point, however I imagine that this isn't really about the Norse Gods.  Its about some idea of the Norse Gods interacting with modern life.  They clean this stuff up.  Translate everything into English, literally have the characters bathe quite a bit more than the original Norse Dieties would have, cleaner clothes, better grooming.  Take out the raping and pillaging.  If they are making all these changes, it doesn't seem a further stretch to flip ethnicities, gender, whatever.  You know the type of movie, it will have the inevitable scene where one of the Norse characters will become positively enamored with some simple electronic modern device and declare it to be magic-powered awesomeness (probably one of those singing plastic fish that hang on the ways).  Ohhh, I had better not think about this movie too much on the front end or I will talk myself out of it.  Focus on Stringer Bell.

1See earlier post re: Asgard Glory, Rainbow Bridge, and a Black Heimdall

I heard a rumor that they weren't going to be 'gods' at all, but like -- aliens -- in a far off galaxy, and that their influence on early Earth causes them to be seen as gods.  Which would be the only case in which I could believe one of them is black.  But of course then, more than one would need to be black.  And there would need to be more than one ethnicity different than white.  And it would still totally blow chunks1 because it would change Marvel continuity/mythos too much.

I must say that I am loving your footnotes.    Thumbs Up

I have long ago divorced the movies from the comic books to save myself.  I think it was about the time they rolled out that horrible Captain America with the clear shield. At least the guy looks like a Steve Rogers type.  Although as a kid for some reason I did like the live action Spiderman TV show.  I guess there is no accounting for taste.

So we have a little Chariots of the Gods scenario possibly.  Didn't that come up on these boards during an Eternals discussion?   Thinking  I think the whole importing a mythology into the modern world is fraught with logistic issues.  Although I just read the Street Angel graphic novel and they have a pretty awesome scene about some sacrifices to a God and his reaction.   Roll On Floor Laughing   It is not Marvel but I really liked Street Angel.

Excellent show with 141 guys. Kudos

Steve - Good job on the Raker's Dozen. I think I have said this before, but you and I have similar mileage, so I enjoy hearing your perspective on current Marvel books from time to time.  I espcially like that when you don;t like a book you will say so. But you always say respectfully including why you don't and I appreciate that (I am more grumpy about certain creators at the House of Ideas lately)

Like you, I read the last several of issues of FF lately and have been loving it (but you know it featured more guest appearances than just the World Devourer, right?).

I will look for those three issues with the Micronauts. (I actually have been leafing through some original Micronauts issues I got from a quarter bin last summer.....good memories).

Keep up the good work
cheers

First time poster around here.  I've been burning through the past 40 or so episode of the show getting caught up and enjoying the heck out of it, especially Raker's Dozen.  That should not be taken as a slight against the rest of the crew, mind you as I like the show as a whole.  I'll be around, hopefully, to post about future issues and get in on the conversations.  Just wanted to get this obligatory post out of the way!
