Looking forward to that!   Rock Horns

Hey, an episode came up...and on my birthday to boot.  Well..."birthday".  I am a leap baby, so that means I have to have a few "skip" birthdays, but I am celebrating today and this episode was a nice addition to some of the errands I had to run.

Anyhoo, the Punisher talk made the stories sound like a lot of good, old fashioned, "kill 'em all and let God sort it out" fun.  The Punisher is my fourth favorite Marvel character and I really dug the first two arcs of the Ennis MAX comic.  I thought that while his Marvel Knight stuff was entertaining it tripped into almost a parody of the character once too often.  The MAX stuff was just what I wanted from the character.  I had planned to catch up on the Ennis run in trade, since that is so easy to do, and it looks like I need to add these to the want list as well.

I really liked your analysis of the four different type of Punisher stories, Steve.  I also liked your comparison to Three's Company mainly because I spent far too many afternoon watching re-runs of the show as a kid.  The thought of replacing Jack with Frank in the show crossed my mind and hilarity ensued in my head as Frank is forced to kill the Ropers when it turns out that they are part of an international drug cartel with the ultimate bad guy being Mr. Furley.  Jan serves as his sidekick and Frank is forced to fight Chrissy, Cindy and Terri in an epic issue long battle.  The final battle ends with Frank walking off into the sunset, heading back to New York City and getting involved in a slave trading plot with the cast of Taxi.

But I digress.

You hit the nail on the head about the character and the four plots you can put him through.  To me when Frank has a monthly ongoing  it always ends up feeling repetitive, which is why I will be reading these in trade instead of following the title.  Once every six months I can get a good Punisher story and not get burned out on the character.

More stuff to pile on the "to buy" list.  I need to stop listening to this show.  It's costing me money.   Cheesy

I used to say that there was no such thing as having too many comics and I still believe that.  I just never factored in storage space.  - Me

Good episode guys, David rambles  Hearts, Pat gives the releases  Boogie, Steve gets all Punishy  Thumbs Up, all capped off with more rambling.

Nice to see more Fraction Iron Man love. I'd imagine it's close to having enough material for another Not-Omnibus for Iron Man.

It's weird that I've read so much Marvel Universe Punisher but never read any MAX Punisher even thought some MU Punisher stories straddle that line. I think it may be the writers on MAX that leave me wondering and then I never follow through.

Glad you enjoyed it, too, Dave!  I particularly liked the 'buddy film' portion of the story, where the reader (and even Frank, a little) ends up rooting some for the dude in the trunk......I wonder if he ever made it out of there, with the compound fracture of his arm and gouged-out eye and all.......

Yes, I too enjoy the Marvel Noise.

It's interesting.   I don't have nearly the same historical knowledge as many of the listeners and contributors on this podcast have, but I still find the tales enjoyable despite my lack of recollection on the characters and story arcs being shared.

So kudos to all who make it possible!   Not WorthyNot Worthy

Ahh, this feels more natural, just lurking in the old episode threads.   Evil  Another magnificent episode, congrats to all around.   Not Worthy  I am really digging on the Heroes for Hire book1.  I tried the first few issues of the Black Panther reboot.  Unfortunately my interest waned with each issue.   Cry  It just felt like they weren't getting to it.  I am sure it will read much better in trade.

Always glad to hear Pat's picks.  I am thinking about the Thor collection but I usually don't like books that big as you can't really see the pages near the spine as well.

Super Steve, snowed in and manning the bunker all alone.  I read some of those stories in trade from the library.  Maybe they should not have put them in the young adult section.  Yoinks.  I like the Punisher (all versions) generally in isolation and not rubbing elbows in the 616.  I think his best stories are just sort of timeless ones that could happen at any time.  It is probably because my first recollection of the punisher was a black and white tale that I want to say was in a magazine or oversized format.  Always risking plucking things out of the half-formed mire of my misty colored memories of the way we were.

Also just telling everyone to get thyselves to the Drawing Board.   You can even see some sharp artwork by the Master Himself, Super-Steve Raker.  He is going to put everyone out of business.

Keep making mine Marvel Noise.   Thumbs Up
