Writer looking for an artist
« on: 02:03 PM | Friday, March 11, 2011 »

I've been wondering: what is the best way to link up with an artist on a project?
I'm an aspiring writer and have, thus far, completed several short stories and one prose novel—all unpublished mind you. I've recently been working on another story which I had originally envisioned as a comic. After several months struggling to churn out a manuscript for this story I began to wonder why I didn't try to link up with an artist to try to produce the story as a comic as I had originally hoped.
I will not be able to attend any cons in the immediete future but if any artist out there would be interested in discussing this project I would certainly like to explore the possibilty of collaborating.

Best way is to just put it out there.  You'll have better luck if you tell a little something about the story you're trying to do. You need something to entice and interest so put your elevator pitch out there.  There is such variety in comics, I doubt anyone is going to pursue this venter blindly.  Good luck.

Here's the pitch:

Ares knows intimitely that dark question which we ask in our most trying times: do we truly deserve to exist? The immortal god molds the world of man as he sees fit; tired of the cycles of war which he himself has wrought, Ares nearly rid the earth of the human race long ago—he has returned to finish the job.
Only the heir to the throne knows exactly how Ares plans to bring about the end of days, and only this despised and arrogant young leader can try to prove that mankind has a place on this world.

Hey, I would recommend first checking out this thread if you have not already https://bullpenbulletinspodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=11072.0. That is where me and some of the guys from this forum are putting together an anthology. I was able to find two artist on that thread where I have already finished one 8 page story, and another artist is working on my script for a five page story. There is a wealth of talent right here on this forum.

Also I see Deviant art recommended a lot to us guys that want to write and it looks like a great tool but I have had minimal success there.

One thing I would strongly recommend is to jump on Twitter if you have not already. Since I have started to finish and work on more projects it has been vital in communicating and networking. I have a third script and just through seeing a twitter post and a little back and forth I think I have found another artist to work on my third script.

I was right there where you were about 2 months ago and now I have meet quite a few people more than willing to work together and it has all been a fantastic experience.

Good luck! oh and also check out my website I launched yesterday called the, the weird & wonderful world of writing comics I plan to keep it updated often and to be posting links to artist and writing about how I am going about getting my scripts produced. http://www.lawrencerosales.com

Very interesting stuff!! Honestly, I've always placed the bulk of my writing time (not much free time in grad school while working full-time...) into prose but am anxious to work with an artist in the comics medium! I'll definitely be checking out that anthology—not sure how I missed its existence but thanks for the heads up!

Try http://forum.deviantart.com/. There's lots of artists looking for writers.
