Anybody go to Comicpalooza in Houston this weekend?  I would have been there, but had to go out of town for a wedding.  Roll Eyes  How was it?

I went on Sunday and thought it was pretty disappointing compared to last year.  Maybe it was just me though, because I've seen nothing but positive comments online.  The guest list seemed pretty weak to me, but I don't really have any interest in meeting the TV/movie celebrities they bring in.  I've heard that the Phoenix Con, being the bigger show, took a lot of the comics guys they had hoped to book.

Of the comics industry guests, I was really excited to meet Fred Van Lente, tell him how much I've enjoyed his Power-Man and Iron Fist stuff, maybe buy some of his work from him (either Comic Book Comics or the Taskmaster trade) and have him sign it.  I couldn't find him.  Artist Alley was laid out like a maze.  I eventually found Van Lente's spot on the map, but the t-shirt vendor set up there said Van Lente had been moved to a better spot.  We were there a little over 4 hours and I never found him.

I originally intended to go alone on Friday and then come back on Sunday with my 7 yr old.  Friday didn't work and I ended up going Sunday only, so that probably hurt the experience too.  I love seeing Max's reaction to the costumes and stuff but it's impossible to watch your child properly and really dig into back issue bins, vintage toys, etc.

I wanted to make the trip but Dallas Comic Con being the weekend before this one there was no way I could swing them both. I really wish some of the Con organizers paid more attention to stuff like that.

That sounds like a bummer, I had a good time last year. I don't have much interest in TV personalities either, and there seemed to be a metric tom of them this year.  I hope they can schedule a more advantageous date next year.

Dwight Silverman of the Chronicle Tech blog tweeted some pics of the con...

Unfortunately, this weekend was crazy for me, so I skipped it. I really don't need to buy anything for awhile anyway, so I passed.
