September 2011 Comic of the Month- Nominations Open
« on: 08:06 PM | Tuesday, June 14, 2011 »

This month's nominations are scheduled to ship in September, 2011.  To those that use Previews, these books will be listed in the July, 2011 catalog.

We will still have individual threads for the publisher's solicits, but as the lists come out, link to them in this thread so we can all see what they have for contenders.

Marvel
DC
Dark Horse

Bongo

How to play:

    * When making a suggestion, you should suggest something that challenges you.  Meaning that you weren't sure if you were going to get it.  Trying something with other people is what should make this fun.  Among other reasons.
    * A publisher cannot have consecutive "wins".  - Since TMNT won for August, IDW is no Eligible for September
    * It doesn't have to have a #1 on the cover to be in the running.  It can be any sort of jumping on point - a new creative team, a new direction, or what have you.
    * We're shooting for a price cap of $5.00.  You're taking a gamble and comics ain't cheap.
    * With that in mind, DCBS will be offering the winner with an extra discount.  Which means voting is going to be quick.  DCBS has to be notified before the spreadsheet gets mailed and the site goes live.
    * The candidates we'll be voting on will be the five or six or so books with the most nominations.

Nominations will go until- 6/23

Let's have some fun!

These are excellent choices.

Tom, you might want to read the rules for nominations. Fear Agent, while an excellent title, is at the end. That is issue 4 of 5 of the last Fear Agent story. Not a good jumping on point.

I know, but how long has it been since the last issue of Fear Agent?  Had to throw it in there.

As a loner, Jason has absolutely no interest in this motley crew of outlaws. So what’s he going to do when they choose the Red Hood as their leader? ULTIMATE COMICS X-MEN #1
Written by Nick Spencer
Penciled by Paco Medina
Cover by KAARE ANDREWS (POLYBAGGED)
Variant Cover by Paco Medina
The biggest mutant cover-up has gone public as the true history of the x-gene is revealed. As an identity crisis rocks the mutant world, the mistrust between man and x-man gets deeper. But a bigger question remains: who are the X-Men? Nick Spencer and Paco Medina make their thunderous Ultimate debut in one of the most anticipated series yet!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

Rebooted X-men in a rebooted Ultimate line by a strong creative team. They could go in some very interesting directions, considering the mutant scenario in that universe is wide open. That would be my Marvel pick.

Buffy Season 9 begins!
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9: FREEFALL #1
Joss Whedon (W), Andrew Chambliss (W), Georges Jeanty (P), Dexter Vines (I), Steve Morris (Cover), Jo Chen (Variant cover), and Georges Jeanty (25th anniversary variant cover)
On sale Sept 14
FC, 40 pages
$2.99
Ongoing
Season 8 ended with a bang when Buffy cut the world off from the hell dimensions and all supernatural influence. Great, right? Except Buffy has left her best friend, Willow, powerless, and ended the long line of vampire slayers, leaving her hated by the hundreds of girls who recently stood behind her. Newly relocated to San Francisco, Buffy can count on a fresh start, and focus on what she’s good at—slaying.
• Written by creator Joss Whedon, with Andrew Chambliss of the CW’s The Vampire Diaries!

It's Buffy as written by Whedon  Cool.  (Here's to hoping this forum isn't populated by Whedon-haters)

HAUNT #19
story JOE CASEY
art / cover NATHAN FOX

SEPTEMBER 21
32 PAGES / FC / T+
$2.99

AN ALL-NEW CREATIVE TEAM KICKS OFF WITH A BOLD NEW DIRECTION!
Brothers Daniel and Kurt Killgore have shared an ominous power, but things begin to unravel – for both of them – when a past tragedy comes back to haunt them.  All-new action! All-new enemies!  The new nightmare begins...NOW!

I have been enjoying this more and more every month, and it seems to have finally found it's feet.  I nominate it because there's a new creative team including Joe Casey, who I hope is the Joe Casey from "Butcher Baker, The Righteous Maker".

(Image) THE BIG LIE #1 (RICK VEITCH story/ art Gary Erskine inks)- It's Rick Veitch and he's awesome (this may not be the most helpful comment ever).
(Marvel) JOHN CARTER: A PRINCESS OF MARS #1- I was a huge Tarzan fan as a kid- Johnny Weismuller movies played every morning in the school holidays. I've not had any experience with the John Carter character so I'll give this a try.
(DC) Action Comics #1- I have not bought a Superman comic in about 20 years (I don't count Absolute All Star Superman) but Morrison/ Morales excites me.
