Oh, and to address the thread's question:

I think I would separate the two.

Day and date: mostly bold with a dash of desperate. But mostly bold.

Renumbering is a gimmick.

This is how I feel. I'm excited to see an aggressive digital program (finally), but I'm wary of the idea that renumbering is necessary to telling good stories. (I'm likewise wary of the idea that renumbering means the stories will be horrible.)

I'm not against a line-wide revamp at all, but it seems like they're putting a Flinstones Band-Aid on the festering wound that is the diminishing customer base. I'd like to see them be far, far bolder than this.

Yea, it's a bold move that's done out of desperation.

Bold would be if they were releasing 52 comics, but only half were going to be superheroes with the rest being police thrillers, romances, historical fiction, etc. and they started advertising them in Redbook magazine.

The key to growing their market is to put out a product that women will read and they (by and large) aren't interested in superheroes.  Women read way more than men do anyway.

Dean's got it! DC Marketing needs to take a carpet-bombing approach. Redbook magazine is the right idea, as crazy as it might sound. So is publishing more than superhero soap opera!

When you consider that romance comics were the best selling comics at one time and all things being cyclical, it's not that weird a notion.

Romance and Urban fantasy are also not to be scoffed at in the bookmarket either still.
